In-app Events

i

User actions tracked within an app (e.g., "Add to Cart," "Level Achieved").

What are in-app events

Unlike app installs, which only show that a user downloaded the app, in-app events reveal how users interact with the app after installation. They help marketers and product teams understand engagement, retention, and conversion patterns, and allow advertisers to tie user actions to specific campaigns.

By analyzing in-app events, teams can answer questions like:

  • Which features are most popular among users?

  • Which campaigns drive purchases or subscriptions?

  • Where do users drop off in a game or app flow?

  • How do users engage with content or share the app with others?

How in-app events are tracked

Mobile measurement partners (MMPs) and analytics platforms log these events whenever users perform a defined action. Tracking can be event-based, where each action is individually recorded, or aggregated to analyze trends over time. These events help tie user behavior to marketing campaigns, enabling advertisers to see which ads drive meaningful interactions inside the app.

Common examples of in-app events

Some typical in-app events include:

  • Adding items to a shopping cart or wishlist

  • Completing levels, milestones, or achievements in games

  • Initiating or completing subscriptions or purchases

  • Viewing specific content, articles, or media

  • Sharing content or inviting friends to join the app

By tracking these events, advertisers and developers can optimize app experiences, improve engagement, and maximize monetization, while gaining a clear view of the user journey from install to in-app interaction.
