Install-to-Event Rate (ITE)

i

The percentage of users who complete an event after installation.

What is ITE

Install-to-Event Rate (ITE) is a key performance metric that measures the percentage of users who complete a specific in-app event after installing an app. Unlike simple install metrics, which only indicate the number of downloads, ITE focuses on user engagement and provides insights into how effectively an app drives desired actions. These actions can include purchases, sign-ups, level completions, subscription activations, or any other meaningful in-app interaction.

How ITE is calculated

ITE is calculated by dividing the number of users who complete a targeted event by the total number of app installs and multiplying by 100 to express it as a percentage. For example, if 500 users install an app and 100 of them complete a purchase, the ITE for that event would be 20%.

By tracking ITE, marketers can move beyond raw install numbers and understand which campaigns or sources attract high-quality, engaged users. This insight is particularly valuable for evaluating user behavior post-install and optimizing campaigns for actions that generate revenue, retention, or long-term app value.

Why ITE matters for app marketing

ITE is an essential metric for measuring quality installs and optimizing campaigns. It allows marketers to:

  • Evaluate user engagement beyond downloads

  • Identify high-performing ad sources or channels

  • Optimize campaigns for actions that drive revenue or retention

  • Reduce wasted spend on installs that do not convert

Common applications of ITE

  • Tracking purchase completion after app installs

  • Monitoring tutorial or onboarding completions in games

  • Measuring subscription activations or upgrades

  • Evaluating engagement with key features or content
