Google Advertising ID (GAID)
A unique, resettable identifier assigned to every Android device for advertising and analytics purposes. It allows advertisers and MMPs to track user activity, attribute app installs, and deliver personalized ads while respecting user privacy controls.
Why GAID matters
GAID enables advertisers and mobile measurement partners (MMPs) to:
-
Track user activity across apps
-
Attribute app installs accurately
-
Deliver personalized ads based on user behavior
At the same time, GAID respects user privacy controls, allowing users to reset their ID or opt out of personalized advertising.
How GAID works
Each Android device is assigned a unique Google Advertising ID used for advertising and measurement. When a user views, clicks, or installs an app after interacting with an ad, the GAID is shared between apps, ad networks, and mobile measurement partners to link ad activity with installs and in app events.
GAID supports attribution by providing a consistent identifier across different apps and platforms. This allows advertisers to understand which campaigns and channels drive installs and user actions, while avoiding the use of personal data.
User privacy is built into the system. The advertising ID can be reset at any time, and users can opt out of ad personalization, ensuring tracking aligns with individual privacy preferences.
Why GAID is important
-
Improve ad targeting and relevance
-
Measure campaign performance effectively
-
Build trust with users by respecting their privacy settings
